Today’s Straight From The TAP highlights a Rural Development Specialist working out of California. Mary Fleming has been with RCAP’s Western Region, RCAC, for 19 years. When Fleming first began her journey with RCAC she was an Accounting Analyst. After realizing her interest in conducting financial analyses on applicants’ financial statements for RCAC’s loan fund, she transferred to the Grants and Contracts Administration Department. Following this experience, Fleming knew she wanted to work in the field directly with the communities she was serving, so she joined the Housing Department. For six years, she provided her expertise as a Financial Management Specialist. Wanting to learn more about the water and wastewater side of the RCAP network, Fleming transferred to the Environmental Department in 2012 and has been there since.
In her current position, she conducts rate studies for small water and wastewater utilities, assists them in setting up their accounting structures, and provides classroom and online training on financial management. “I am grateful for the well-versed manger and coworkers who graciously guided me through, what I found to be, a steep learning curve,” Fleming says about her incredible journey throughout RCAC. Fleming’s favorite part about the RCAP network is the vast amount of expertise available across the country. “I have found the people in the RCAP network to be extremely knowledgeable, supportive and generous in sharing information, experiences and resources.” Thank you, Mary, for all of the hard work and dedication you’ve shown to improve quality of life, starting at the tap.
