Seeking communications intern

RCAP’s national office in downtown Washington, D.C., is seeking a communications intern for part-time or possibly full-time hours.  The office is accessible by Metro and several bus routes. 

Duties:   Assist with the production of publications in a special project:
  • editing and some writing
  • coordinating writers and designers
  • posting content of these publications to the organization’s website
  • helping to develop other, related products (CDs, DVDs, etc.)
Opportunity to assist with other, regular communications tasks:
  • create content for website (text, multimedia)
  • write and edit for the organization’s magazine
Ideal candidate has/is:
  • Currently enrolled in a college/university, and preferably with 4 or more semesters completed
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Computer experience as a user and producer (maintaining a blog, for example)
  • Quick learner, curious mind
  • Ability to grasp complex subjects and communicate them clearly
  • Ability to present ideas and content in communications vehicles in creative ways
  • Experience in producing publications (newspaper, magazine, etc.)
  • Desirable additional skills – any of the following: layout and design skills (for print or web); website development and maintenance
Provisions:
  • This is a paid internship (up to $15/hr)
  • 15-20 hrs per week as a part-time internship; possibility for full-time hours (during summer) if intern is willing to perform additional duties related to the planning of the organization’s national conference.
  • Start date in May (negotiable, and can be after the close of the academic year) for the summer months and preferably someone who could continue working into the fall and later months (with part-time daytime hours that would work around a class schedule).
  • Willing to work with you to fulfill the requirements of this position as an internship – for you to receive academic credit (providing evaluations, filling out required forms, etc.)
