What: ROAD Sessions 4

 The ROAD Sessions highlight and unpack rural development ideas and strategies that are critical in response to COVID-19 and to long-term rebuilding and recovery. ROAD Sessions feature stories of on-the-ground practitioners who have experience, wisdom and savvy to share. The series reflects and emphasizes the full diversity of rural America, spotlights rural America’s assets and challenges, and lifts voices and lived experience from a wide range of rural communities and economies. Each Session includes an added opportunity for peer exchange. Overall, the ROAD Sessions aim to infuse practitioner stories and lessons into rural narratives, policymaking and practice across the country, and to strengthen the network of organizations serving rural communities and regions.

What: Rural Homecoming

When: Fall 2020

Where: Rural Communities

An annual event held occurring in mid-October, Rural Homecoming is an opportunity for rural communities to participate in a national celebration, and to invite their friends and family to celebrate what makes rural so special. An updated toolkit will be made available soon with virtual options to participate in Rural Homecoming.

What: RCAP 2021 Fly-In

When: February 22-25, 2021

Where: Washington, D.C. or Virtual

RCAP staff and rural community members from across the country will travel to Capitol Hill to meet with elected representatives to discuss issues facing rural America. Click here for more information, including draft agendas.

RCAP national conference

What: RCAP 2021 National Conference

When: To be decided

Where: Chicago, Illinois, or virtual

The RCAP National Conference is an opportunity for technical assistance providers from across the country to gather together and discuss common challenges, issues and opportunities faced in rural communities. More information to come.

Nine RCAP staff members were honored for exceptional service in their positions during RCAP’s national conference Sept. 15-17 in Arlington, Va.
 
The staff were honored at a lunchtime banquet held during the conference, which was a training event for RCAP technical assistance providers and other staff from all of RCAP’s six regions.

Under the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program, RCAP has submitted an application for $36 million to provide technical assistance and training to small, rural, unserved and underserved communities in all aspects of sustainable broadband adoption development and deployment. RCAP also proposes to provide loans to eligible communities to finance pre-development costs such as feasibility studies and pre-construction expenses associated with funding awards.
