The Guardian (UK): Global majority faces water shortages 'within two generations'

An article in London's The Guardian reports on a warning by hundreds of scientists last week that a majority of the world's population, including in developed countries like the United States, is reaching a tipping point where easy access to fresh, clean water will no longer be easily available. They cite climate change, pollution and over-use of resources.

In an editorial on the Huffington Post's Green Blog, Wm. Robert Irvin, President, American Rivers, presents the case that the fiscal cliff spending cuts threaten rivers and clean water. HIs editorial begins:

"Unless President Obama and Congress reach a deal before the end of the year to avert taking the nation over the fiscal cliff, automatic spending cuts, known as sequestration, will go into effect.  These across-the-board cuts to federal programs could have devastating impacts on rivers and clean water."

An EPA administrator writes that clean water is environmental justice

Nancy Stoner, acting Assistant Administrator for EPA's Office of Water, has blogged about the connection between environmental justice and clean water. In the blog post, Stoner acknowledges the importance of access to safe water for communities, the role of partnerships to revitalize communities while securing cleaner water, and the opportunity to expand the conversation on environmental justice.
