Reuters: World set to use much more wastewater - U.N.-backed study

OSLO, Sept 5 (Reuters) - The world is set to use far more treated wastewater to help irrigate crops and feed a rising population as fresh water supplies dry up, a team of U.N.-backed experts said Sept. 5.

A study led by Japan's Tottori University and U.N. University's Canadian-based Institute for Water, Environment and Health (UNU-INWEH) forecast "a rapid increase in the use of treated wastewater for farming and other purposes worldwide".

EPA has released a report on emerging technologies for wastewater treatment and in-plant wet weather management to assist municipal wastewater utility owners and operators, local governments, engineers, and planners find information on new wastewater treatment and in-plant wet-weather management technologies.  The document includes technical and cost information to assist users in considering using more efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective wastewater treatment and in-plant wet-weather management technologies.

EPA launches online training to assist Tribes in managing water systems

To help tribes and Alaska Native Villages manage their drinking water and wastewater systems, EPA is releasing a series of 10 online training modules covering an array of operation, maintenance, and system management issues at smaller drinking water and wastewater facilities. Training topics include information on managing and maintaining drinking water, sewer, lagoon, and decentralized infrastructure as well as information on sustainably managing water systems, including asset management and techniques for developing rate structures.
