EPA awards more than $1 million in environmental justice grants to protect people’s health

EPA also announces solicitation for 2012 grants

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced it awarded more than $1 million in grants to 46 nonprofit and tribal organizations working to address environmental justice issues nationwide. EPA also announced it is seeking applicants for $1 million in environmental justice small grants expected to be awarded in 2012. EPA’s environmental justice efforts aim to ensure equal environmental and health protections for all Americans, regardless of race or socioeconomic status.

Grants available for farmers or rural small businesses

The Rural Energy for America Program is providing grant funds to agricultural producers and rural small businesses to install renewable energy systems and energy-efficiency improvements. The Rural Energy for America Program is designed to help agricultural producers and rural small businesses reduce energy costs and consumption and help meet the nation's critical energy needs. The grants are awarded on a competitive basis.

USDA invites applications for grants to connect rural communities to broadband service

WASHINGTON, March 4, 2011 (USDA) – USDA Rural Utilities Service (RUS) Administrator Jonathan Adelstein today announced that USDA is accepting applications for grants to provide broadband access in rural communities currently without broadband service. Joining him to make the announcement was Aneesh Chopra, Chief Technology Officer, White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP).
