EPA Watershed Academy webcast on "Using the New Water Quality Portal"

On October 23, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. ET, EPA's Watershed Academy will host a webinar for water-quality managers and others to learn about the new Water-Quality Portal for water-quality data The portal brings together chemical, physical and microbiological data from EPA's Storage and Retrieval Data Warehouse and USGS's National Water Information System for scientists, policy-makers, and the public in a single, user-friendly web interface, while reducing the burden of searching, compiling, and formatting water monitoring data for analysis.

E&E Publishing: Oil and gas frackers now have to tell EPA where they are doing it

In an Oct. 9 article, E&E Publishing reported that "Oil and gas companies will soon have to start telling U.S. EPA before they 'frack' wells, a development that has caught many in the industry off-guard and rekindled some drillers' most potent fears about federal intrusion."

EPA launches revamped septic website

Nearly one in four households in the U.S. depends on an individual septic system or small community cluster system to treat its wastewater. EPA has recently revamped its septic website to better serve homeowners, state and local officials, industry professionals, and its partner organizations. The website includes a suite of new case studies demonstrating what communities across the country are doing to effectively manage their decentralized wastewater infrastructure and find solutions to meet their own unique wastewater infrastructure needs.
