New app lets users check health of waterways anywhere in the U.S.

WASHINGTON (EPA)  — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) launched a new app and website on Oct. 18 to help people find information on the condition of thousands of lakes, rivers and streams across the United States from their smart phone, tablet or desktop computer. Available at http://www.epa.gov/mywaterway, the How’s My Waterway app and website use GPS technology or a user-entered zip code or city name to provide information about the quality of local water bodies.

EPA announces opportunity to apply for 2013 environmental-justice small grants

WASHINGTON (EPA) – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced Oct. 15 that it is seeking applicants for a total of $1.5 million in environmental-justice small grants to be awarded in 2013. EPA’s environmental-justice efforts aim to ensure equal environmental and health protections for all Americans, regardless of race or socioeconomic status. The grants enable nonprofit organizations to conduct research, provide education and develop solutions to local health and environmental issues in communities overburdened by harmful pollution.
