USDA highlights assistance to residents affected by Hurricane Irene

 WASHINGTON, Aug. 31, 2011 – Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today said USDA is ready to deploy personnel and resources to assist the efforts by federal, state and local authorities in response to Hurricane Irene. Yesterday, the Secretary joined Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano for a tour of hurricane-impacted areas in North Carolina and Virginia.

EPA and USDA create partnership to improve drinking water systems and develop workforce in rural communities

WASHINGTON –The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)  announced Aug. 8 a national partnership to protect Americans’ health by improving rural drinking water and wastewater systems. Nationwide, small water and sewage treatment facilities with limited funding and resources face challenges due to rising costs and aging equipment and pipes.
