David Conine, a staff member of the Rural Community Assistance Corporation [1], the Western RCAP, has been named the Utah State Director for Rural Development at the U.S. Department of Agriculture [2].

OBAMA ADMINISTRATION CONTINUES NAMING STATE DIRECTORS FOR RURAL DEVELOPMENT
WASHINGTON, August 25, 2009 - The Obama Administration today continued naming individuals who will serve as State Director for Rural Development at the USDA.
"These individuals will be important advocates on behalf of rural communities in states throughout the country and help administer the valuable programs and services provided by the USDA that can enhance their economic success," said Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.

David Conine - Conine has worked for the past seven years with the Rural Community Assistance Corporation (RCAC). In this role, he assisted the housing needs of low-income residents and provided much needed information on the USDA housing programs and the broader issues of rural community and economic development in conjunction with USDA's Rural Development staff. Conine worked to provide technical assistance on grant applications and training programs on housing organization staffs, including construction, supervisors, and assisting to have more plans to develop housing that is more energy efficient for low income residents.
Shortly after Conine’s appointment was announced, he traveled to Washington, D.C., for orientation in his new post. On the morning of Sept. 1, his photo happened to appear on the front page of the Style section of The Washington Post in an article about a staff assistant in the White House Visitors Office (“Today, He’s the White House’s Tour de Force” [3]).
