Last week, The Huffington Post posted an article from Dr. Peter Gleick, president of the Pacific institute, on a new water philosophy he is fostering. Dr. Gleick believes that it's time to harvest the momentum of the local sustainability movement to promote “local water.”

Following in the footsteps of the local food production and distribution movement, which encourages consumption of products produced within a 100 mile radius, Gleick wants to see America’s towns, communities, and cities adopt a more efficient reliance on local water sources.

He also suggests that, once water is brought into a system, it should be kept there through treating and reusing the water. The article highlights which ideas to steal from the local food movement, as well as what  unique challenges a local water movement will have.
