In an April 12, 2012, post to the New York Times Op-Docs, a forum for short, opinionated documentaries, produced with creative latitude by independent filmmakers and artists, Academy Award-winning filmmaker Jessica Yu writes about the water crisis in the United States. She is the director of the forthcoming “Last Call at the Oasis,” a feature documentary on the water crisis for Participant Media.  Her nonfiction and scripted films include “Protagonist,” “Ping Pong Playa” and “In the Realms of the Unreal.”

Also, watch the video "Taking the Waste Out of Wastewater", which accompanies Yu's editorial and that features psychologist Paul Rozin arguing that it is a necessary solution to our domestic water woes.

Yu's feature documentary, "Last Call at the Oasis," is developed, financed and executive produced by Participant Media, the company responsible for AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH, FOOD, INC. and WAITING FOR “SUPERMAN”. The film presents a powerful argument for why the global water crisis will be the central issue facing our world this century.

Illuminating the vital role water plays in our lives, exposing the defects in the current system and depicting communities already struggling with its ill-effects, the film features activist Erin Brockovich and such distinguished experts as Peter Gleick, Alex Prud’homme, Jay Famiglietti and Robert Glennon.
