The Tribal Utility Governance (TUG) program is run by RCAP and its partners - the Rural Community Assistance Corporation (RCAC), the Western RCAP; Community Resource Group (CRG), the Southern RCAP; the Inter Tribal Council of Arizona, Inc. (ITCA); and SmallWaterSupply.org.

The TUG program will provide training and technical assistance on utility management, financial and managerial capacity issues for personnel of tribally owned and operated public water systems (PWS) in U.S. EPA Regions 6, 8, and 9.

New York Times article on rain harvesting

In the New York Times' Green Column, there is a Nov. 14 article about rain harvesting. It reads, in part:

"Collecting rainwater is an ancient idea, done in places like India and Rome before people could rely wholly on centralized piping systems. These days, the concept is returning to advanced economies, especially in drought-stricken areas."

New water rate structure meets state water goals by incentivizing efficiency

SACRAMENTO (NRDC) –Thousands of California households could save on their monthly bills thanks to a new rate structure that California American Water Company will introduce in Sonoma, Ventura, Los Angeles and San Diego (California) counties as part of a water-rate settlement with the Natural Resources Defense Council approved Nov.8 by state regulators.

Webcast on planning for sustainability

On December 13, 2012, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm EST, EPA will host a webinar on how water and wastewater utilities can build sustainability considerations into alternatives analysis as they evaluate and select investments in infrastructure. The webinar is the third in a series of EPA webcasts built around the core elements of its 2012 handbook, "Planning for Sustainability: A Handbook for Water and Wastewater Utilities." EPA launches “SepticSmart” to prevent costly septic system problems, protect environment

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has launched “SepticSmart,” a new program encouraging homeowners to take steps to maintain their home septic systems, preventing costly repairs, inconvenience and pollution to local waterways, which poses risks to public health and the environment. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, nearly 25 percent of U.S. households—more than 26 million homes—and almost one-third of new developments are serviced by septic systems.
