Are POUs Right 4U?

We all know that things are getting smaller these days. Why even in the great state of Texas where things are always bigger, consumer reports show that people are turning in droves to smaller computers and tiny little cell phones. It is a trend that even has the "Big Cheese" himself—Ronald McDonald taking notice—leading the nation’s largest fast-food chain to do away with the “super-sized” value meals.

Making the Most of Water Security

Preparing for the Worst

On a cold March night, long after most of the 9,000, or so, folks living in Blackstone, MA had embraced the quiet warmth of their beds, three shadowy figures slowly made their way through the town.

Careful not to be seen, the trio cautiously approached the town’s water storage facility which housed the target of their mission—a 1.3 million gallon storage tank that held the drinking water supply for both Blackstone and part of North Smithfield.

Becoming a Skeeter Defeater

Merely mention mosquito control to most people and you will soon hear talk of West Nile Virus, low-flying helicopters at dawn, or possibly even how their dog was never seen again after it was carried away by two hungry "biting flies."

When the West Nile Virus first exploded on the scene way back in 1999, people immediately began to take a greater interest in mosquitoes and the places where they live and breed.

Planning Today for Tomorrow’s Drought

Originally published July 26, 2006

“It pays to plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the ark.” Unknown Author

In many parts of the country, the drought of 2002 was the most severe since the days of the infamous Dust Bowl. The total economic effects may never be fully known, but estimates of the drought's damages to business and the environment run well into the billions of dollars.

Damage was Measured in the Billions: Recovery is Being Measured one Meter at a Time.

Trench Safety: Can You Dig It?

On June 14, 2002, while working on a sewer pipe in a trench 10 feet deep, a worker was buried alive under a rush of collapsing muck and mud. A husky plumber's apprentice, barely 22 years old, he clawed for the surface as thousands of pounds of dirt pressed on his chest.

Until that very moment, it had been a just a normal day in the trenches...another day at work.
